Freethought: The aim of this project is to deconstruct dominant perceptions of “threats” to security, both individual and communal, in a global context.Threats and notions of security are socially constructed and are informed by power, ideational, political, and financial.  Through tools such as the media, societal influence, governmental propaganda, manipulation of fear, concealment of information and the like threats are constructed and security is perceived in a particular manner. The promotion of security against such threats, as it is currently carried out by the state, has consequences; it entails preserving the status quo, naturally favouring those who benefit from the current system, and too often security politics emerge as a source of conflict.
